David Schwegler, the CEO of Schwegler Maschinenhandel

 – a family business specializing in buying and selling modern used machinery – construction equipment has never been just a business.

"Working with construction machines is a true passion."

That passion helped turn a small side business operating from his parents' garage into Schwegler Maschinenhandel, a growing company that today manages around 300 machines every year.

As the business expanded, one thing became increasingly important: finding reliable equipment and having complete confidence in every purchase.

In the used machinery market, confidence comes from knowing exactly what you are buying. For Schwegler, that confidence is rooted in a six-year relationship with DLL, built on transparency, reliability, and continuous improvement. What began with equipment offers shared directly by the Asset Sales team has since evolved into the DLL Equipment Showroom, where buyers can access detailed asset information and participate in transparent online auctions.

Hear directly from David Schwegler about how his business has grown, why transparency matters when buying used equipment, and how his relationship with DLL has evolved over the years.

Seven years ago, Schwegler Maschinenhandel looked very different.

The company started with a simple idea. David purchased his first excavator, rented it to local construction sites, and managed the business alongside his regular work. What began as a small rental operation gradually developed into machinery trading as demand grew and customer relationships strengthened.

Today, the company employs six team members. It operates its own truck, manages a substantial fleet, and serves customers across the construction sector.

Compact construction equipment remains the main focus. David buys a broad mix of machines through the DLL Equipment Showroom, including vibratory plates, mini excavators, wheel loaders, aerial work platforms, trucks, vans, and tractors. Schwegler’s purchase history also reflects the development of the business. In the early years, he concentrated almost entirely on compact construction machines.

As the company grew, the range widened to include more equipment categories and a larger variety of assets for resale.

Growth creates opportunities, but it also raises expectations.

When buying and selling equipment on a larger scale, every purchasing decision matters. Machine condition, maintenance history, documentation, pricing, and availability all play a role. Having clear information from the start helps businesses move forward with certainty.

That is one of the reasons Schwegler Maschinenhandel works with the DLL Equipment Showroom.

David has been purchasing machinery from DLL since 2020. During that time, the way DLL presents available equipment and manages bids has changed considerably.

Before the Equipment Showroom was introduced, DLL shared machinery through an email distribution list. Each offer included a completed PDF with a limited number of photographs. Buyers submitted their bids by replying to the email.

Now, the Equipment Showroom brings the listing information and bidding activity into one online environment. Each asset is documented in far greater detail, giving David a clearer basis for judging its condition before he decides whether to bid.

Clear information matters when buying used equipment

Buying used machinery often involves transportation and relocation. A machine may be located hundreds of kilometers away, so a personal inspection is not always practical before a decision must be made. For David, the Equipment Showroom's value begins with the information available on each asset.

Detailed listings replace many of the assumptions that come with limited photographs and brief descriptions. Buyers can review the available machine information and make their own assessment before placing a bid.

During open auctions, buyers can see whether they are the highest bidder and whether the reserve price has been met. The status remains visible while the auction is running, so they know where their bid stands.

The platform has become a regular purchasing channel for Schwegler Maschinenhandel. With DLL hosting multiple auctions annually, Schwegler has become a consistent participant, purchasing an average of around two machines per auction through the Equipment Showroom in recent years.

The Equipment Showroom gives buyers access to professionally inspected used equipment backed by consistent standards. According to

Rico Kunert, Team Lead Asset Sales DACH at DLL

, reliability remains central to how DLL supports customers and dealers.

"At the Equipment Showroom, every machine is clearly documented, fairly valued, and priced with complete transparency. We are responsible for bringing quality used machines back into the market,"

Reliability is particularly important in the construction sector, where equipment availability can directly affect project planning and business performance. Buyers need confidence that the machine described is the machine they will receive.

For equipment buyers, that means having the information needed to evaluate a machine before purchasing and making decisions with greater confidence, even when the asset is located in another country.

For Schwegler, that creates a purchasing experience built on certainty rather than guesswork.

"I know what I can buy. I know what I'm getting. And I can always talk directly with the contact person,”

Equipment sourcing and payment options in one relationship

As Schwegler Maschinenhandel continued to grow, the relationship with DLL expanded beyond equipment sourcing. The company also works with DLL on inventory and customer financing, supporting its own purchases and the payment options it can discuss with customers.

"We can finance machines we purchase ourselves and also offer suitable financing solutions to our customers,"

"That means we can provide everything from a single source."

For machinery dealers, access to equipment and financing are often closely connected. Being able to discuss both through one trusted partner creates a smoother process for buyers and sellers alike. The result is a business relationship that supports multiple stages of the equipment lifecycle, from acquisition to resale.

Construction equipment remains a people's business. Relationships developed through years of buying, selling, transporting, and servicing machines often become as important as the equipment itself. David values direct contact in his work with DLL.

"It's great when business, friendship, and personal connections come together."

His comment points to a practical feature of the industry. Long-term business relationships depend on clear communication, dependable follow-up, and an understanding of how customers buy and sell used equipment.

Schwegler Maschinenhandel has come a long way from its beginnings in a garage. What started with one excavator and a side business has become a company handling hundreds of machines each year.

The equipment mix has broadened with the business, but David's purchasing discipline remains consistent. He wants detailed asset information, visible pricing, and a clear view of his position during an auction.

DLL Equipment Showroom gives him those points of reference before he buys. In a market where a machine may be viewed from a distance and purchased for its next working life, knowing what is on offer carries real weight.

Knowing What You're Buying: How Schwegler Maschinenhandel Sources Used Equipment with Confidence

Unlocking value through equipment, expertise, and finance

In today’s agricultural landscape, access to high-quality equipment, the right financing, and trusted relationships can significantly impact efficiency and growth. For Ronald Keith Agri Services, a long-standing DLL customer, the acquisition of a JCB Fastrac 4220 iCON tractor demonstrates how DLL delivers value beyond a traditional auction platform.

is a well-established agricultural contractor with over two decades of experience supporting crop production. Since its formation in 2004, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering reliable, high-quality field services, underpinned by continued investment in modern machinery and efficient working practices to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

Ronald Keith identified a 2023 JCB Fastrac 4220 iCON that was listed on DLL’s Equipment Showroom. With just 1,584 operating hours, the tractor represented a compelling opportunity for them. Built to a Pro Line specification, the machine offered advanced controls, strong hydraulics, and premium performance features.

Combining productivity, versatility, and operator comfort, the Fastrac was ideally suited for demanding mixed farming operations, such as cultivation work, slurry or trailer haulage, and high-speed transport between fields, where both strong in-field performance and efficient road travel are essential.

As an existing customer, Ronald contacted his DLL Account Manager, Rachel Simpson, who quickly understood his needs and connected him with DLL’s International Asset Sales Manager, Richard McTurk.

Richard provided clear insight into the tractor’s specification, condition, and suitability, giving Ronald the confidence to proceed. This collaboration reflects DLL’s partnership approach, combining customer relationships with technical expertise to support informed decisions.

Confidence to compete: A transparent auction experience

With a clear understanding of the asset, Ronald entered the auction with confidence. DLL’s Equipment Showroom provided full transparency, including more than 40 high-quality images, a video walkaround, and a detailed inspection report, giving him reassurance on the tractor’s condition without needing to view it in person.

Combined with zero commission and no buyer’s fees, the auction offered a straightforward and accessible route to purchase. In a competitive yet transparent environment, Ronald was able to bid with confidence. His winning bid secured a premium asset at true market value.

Once the bid was secured, attention turned to structuring the financing aspects. DLL combined access to equipment with tailored financing, reinforcing its integrated offering.

Building on their existing relationship, Ronald chose a Hire Purchase agreement. This allowed him to spread costs, preserve working capital, and work towards full future ownership of the tractor.

With the financing structure agreed, Rachel managed the application process end-to-end, ensuring a smooth transition from auction win to funded asset.

While financing was finalized, Ronald arranged collection of the tractor. These steps progressed in parallel, reducing delays between purchase and use. This coordinated approach reflects DLL’s focus on efficiency, helping customers put equipment to work quickly.

This transaction highlights DLL’s ability to support every stage of the equipment lifecycle, from sourcing to funding.

“From spotting the tractor on the auction to getting it to our farm, the whole process was straightforward. There was plenty of detail on the listing, so we were comfortable buying it without seeing it in person. Once we’d won the bid, DLL sorted the finance quickly and we had the tractor ready to go without any hassle, which makes a big difference when you just need to get on with the job.”

This example reinforces how DLL’s Equipment Showroom is not just a marketplace for used equipment. By combining equipment access, transparent auctions, flexible finance, and personalized support, DLL simplifies the acquisition process.

For customers like Ronald Keith Agri Services, this means more than purchasing equipment, it means working with a partner who can support informed investment options, help manage cash flow, and support efficient operations.

From Auction to the Field: How Ronald Keith Agri Services Secured a High-Spec JCB Fastrac with DLL

A recovered machine in the United Kingdom. A buyer in Italy. One equipment marketplace connecting the two. That was the case when a high-value Powerscreen Warrior 1400X crawled screening plant was listed for sale through the DLL Equipment Showroom.

For companies buying used equipment, finding the right machine can take time. This is particularly true when looking for specialized equipment, where availability is limited and condition matters just as much as the location and the price.

For BRB (Brescia Recupero Beni), a company specializing in the trading and rental of industrial machinery, the search for equipment is part of everyday business.

Hear directly from BRB and DLL about the purchase of a Powerscreen screening plant through the DLL Equipment Showroom.

The Powerscreen screening plant had been recovered by DLL in the United Kingdom. Because of its value and specialized application, the machine was listed in the Buy Now section of the Equipment Showroom rather than being offered through a monthly auction.

The Buy Now marketplace gives equipment continuous exposure, allowing buyers to browse available assets whenever they are ready to purchase. For specialized machines, this the valuable alternative to a time-limited auction.

The listing attracted the attention of BRB in Italy. After reviewing the equipment information and discussing the machine with DLL, BRB decided to proceed with the purchase. DLL supported the transaction by coordinating communication between the parties and helping manage the import requirements needed to move the machine from the United Kingdom to Italy. The equipment was successfully transported to Italy and added to BRB's operations.

For BRB, the purchase was not simply about acquiring another machine. Shortly after arriving in Italy, the screening plant was rented to an end customer and returned to active use.

The transaction demonstrates how equipment can continue working long after its initial lease term has ended, provided it reaches the right buyer.

Why equipment buyers choose the DLL Equipment Showroom

When sourcing used equipment, buyers often want answers to a few simple questions:
